Aquatic-Auctions exists to reconnect responsible aquatics enthusiasts, breeders, retailers, importers, and hobbyists through a trusted, transparent, and ethical marketplace dedicated to the safe buying and selling of aquatic livestock.
Why we exist
Our platform was born from a significant change within the online marketplace industry. For many years, aquarium hobbyists and aquatic businesses relied on auction-based selling platforms to discover rare species, responsibly bred livestock, and competitively priced aquatic products. These marketplaces helped thousands of small businesses flourish, encouraged responsible captive breeding programs, and made the aquarium hobby more accessible to enthusiasts of every experience level.
However, when global marketplace providers implemented blanket bans on the sale of live animals due to concerns over inconsistent shipping standards in some parts of the world, the impact was felt far beyond the regions where those concerns originated. While the intention of protecting animal welfare was understandable, the consequences were significant for countries such as the United Kingdom, where a mature and highly reliable livestock transportation network already existed.

In the UK, specialist carriers, overnight delivery services, professional importers, breeders, and hobbyists had collectively developed safe and sustainable methods for transporting live aquatic animals. Through the use of insulated packaging, temperature-controlled shipping practices, oxygenated bags, heat packs, cold packs, and next-day delivery services, aquatic livestock could be moved responsibly while maintaining high standards of welfare. Yet despite these established systems, the closure of major online auction channels removed a vital route to market for many legitimate businesses.
The result was devastating for numerous small and medium-sized aquatic enterprises. Independent breeders lost access to their customer base. Specialist importers found it increasingly difficult to reach enthusiasts who valued rare and unusual species. Hobbyists lost access to diverse livestock options and often found themselves paying higher prices due to reduced competition and fewer available suppliers. In many cases, passionate businesses that had supported the hobby for years were forced to scale back or close entirely.
